Marek Musil was born in Kroměříž in 1974. He graduated from a secondary school of food technology. After completing his compulsory military service, he worked as a factory turner. In the early 1990s after the Velvet Revolution, he formed various bands in his birthplace, in which he was the drummer. In the late 1990s, he travelled to Israel, where he began to materialise his visual imagery through the lens finder. He felt a growing need to keep improving in shooting.
After his return to the Czech Republic, he settled in Prague where he started working as a commercial
photographers’ assistant. In their photostudios, he had an opportunity to look into the secrets of technical
photography and the photographic craft as a whole. After four years of working as an assistant, he went
to the US where he gained experience in fashion and portrait photography. With the experience from abroad,
Marek was able to stand on his own feet once he came back home. He soon made a name for himself as a photographer
in his beloved Prague. Over the course of fifteen years of commercial work he continued with his travels
to the US where he spent his leisure time working on his free photographic cycles. His repeated travels
to Florida Keys where he created a set of underwater photos called Underwater Emotion are also worth mentioning.
The following eight-year cycle of his photographic work captures the black and white world behind the
scenes of Prague fashion shows. Here Marek reveals the hidden side of the fashion business to the public.
Three years ago, he created The Burning Man Collection, the purpose of which is to show a distinct human
subculture in the extreme conditions of three different deserts on three continents. With this collection,
Marek made it to the final of Czech Press Photo 2018.
His photos regularly appear in Czech magazines such as Elle, Esquire, Harper's Bazaar, Dolce Vita, Cosmopolitan,
and Marie Clarie.
As an advertising photographer, he’s had the opportunity to shoot for well-known brands such as Pilsner
Urquell, Auto Skoda, T-Mobile, Adidas, Czech Tourism, Samsung, and more.
He is a Nikon ambassador in the Czech Republic and a member of the AFP – Professional Photographers Association.
