Petr Jan Juračka is one of today's leading photographers of nature and natural phenomena. His speciality are photos of unexpected stories and phenomena, which Petr also looks into at the Faculty of Science, Charles University. As a natural scientist, an ambassador of leading photography brands, and also simply as an adventure and challenge lover, Petr has travelled through Africa, Asia, Greenland, and Central America with photography and film equipment. Recently, he has made short visits to South America, Australia, and Japan.
Petr has made several short science films, the very first one of which won the NF Neuron competition for
the best popular video. This has brought Petr to his own popular science TV show on TV Nova within the
Weekend Magazine. It is called ‘Petr’s Wilderness’ (Petrova divočina) and you can bet that it’s far from
an ordinary show. Petr writes his own scripts, he plays in his films and he also often films them and
takes care of the sound. The most famous film achievement in which Petr was involved has been Who’s Who
in Mycology. Petr worked on it for more than a year and a by-product was also one episode of Petr’s Wilderness.
The short and rather unusual feature film by Marie Dvořáková received the prestigious Student Oscar in
Las Vegas in 2017. Petr filmed all time-lapses for the film in his underground bunker, using lights from
our company. The only other Czech film awarded by Student Oscar is Jan Svěrák’s Oil Gobblers (1989).
Petr’s recent projects include a popular book Pictures from a Photographer’s Life (Ze života fotografa)
and a series on the Internet television Mall.TV of the same name.
